Happy Memorial Day, Conshy. The flags are out, the grills are warming up, and the borough is mostly hitting pause. Before you head to a parade or fire up the burgers, a quick scan of what is actually happening in our corner of Montgomery County.
The big slow-burn story this week is the return of the data center fight. MONTCO.Today reports that a new application has reignited the debate over a proposed data center near the old Cleveland-Cliffs site. And if that does not feel like enough hyperscale humming for one region, the Upper Merion Planning Commission has five (yes, five) data center reviews on its May 27th agenda. State lawmakers, meanwhile, are split on how to regulate them, which is the political way of saying nothing happens fast.
On the political front, the 148th state legislative race is still a nailbiter. Per Patch, vote counting continues days after the primary. MoreThanTheCurve notes Megan Griffin-Shelley as the likely Democratic winner, with turnout in Whitemarsh on the low side. Strange kind of waiting, as one candidate put it.
Heads up for families heading west: the Collegeville-Trappe Memorial Day Parade, one of the region's biggest, has been canceled this year. Plenty of nearby alternatives in the sidebar if you still want a parade fix.
