Soap Box Derby Rolls Into Its 75th Year on the Hottest Fourth Since 2002

Well, they did it again. The Conshohocken Soap Box Derby crossed the finish line on its 75th edition this past Fourth of July, and the racers picked the hottest race day since 2002 to do it. Seventy-five years of gravity, plywood, and neighborhood glory. That is not a stretch of tradition you sneeze at.

Winners have been posted by MoreThanTheCurve, and if you scrolled Instagram Thursday night you already know the July 3 fireworks over the Schuylkill went off without a hitch. A good weekend for the borough, all things considered, given the flash flood watch now hanging over the region.

Full results and a race-day recap are up at MoreThanTheCurve.

Angelo's Pizzeria Keeps Conshy's Bread-Baking Legacy Alive

Here is a story that would make your grandparents nod. Angelo's Pizzeria, already a Fayette Street fixture, is quietly carrying forward Conshohocken's old-school bread-baking tradition through its wholesale operation. This is a town that used to smell like flour and yeast, and Angelo's seems determined not to let that fade into the archives.

MONTCO.Today has the full write-up on how the shop is preserving the craft while the neighborhood around it turns into what the same outlet calls the region's most explosive dining destination. Read it at MONTCO.Today.

A French Textile Recycler Just Set Up Shop on the Riverfront

Reju, a textile-to-textile materials regeneration company, opened a research and development center in Conshohocken on July 1. If the phrase textile-to-textile regeneration means nothing to you, the short version is: they figure out how to turn old clothes back into new fiber, which sounds a bit like alchemy and is arguably more useful.

The borough continues to be a magnet for companies you have never heard of doing things you did not know were possible. Details at MoreThanTheCurve.

Flash Flood Watch and a PECO Strike Still Simmering

Two things worth keeping an eye on this morning. First, a flood watch is posted across the Philadelphia region through this evening for the risk of flash flooding, per 6abc. If you are heading anywhere near low-lying roads or the Schuylkill, plan accordingly.

Second, PECO crews are still restoring power from the recent storm while management and the union continue talks to end a strike that began Saturday. So far the utility says service work continues. More at 6abc.
