National Guard water rescue drill over Conshohocken scrubbed by weather

Well, that was a short-lived spectacle. Anyone who cleared their Wednesday morning to point at a low-flying helicopter over the Schuylkill is going to need a new hobby. The National Guard water emergency exercise that had been planned for September 2nd in Conshohocken is canceled, according to MoreThanTheCurve. The reason is not local weather but conditions at the helicopter's home base.

These drills are the boring-in-a-good-way part of emergency preparedness. They practice for the day nobody wants, over the river most of us cross twice daily. The Guard has not announced a rescheduled date in the material we have, so consider this a rain check rather than a cancellation with prejudice.

Angelo's keeps Conshohocken's bread-baking story alive

Conshy has a bread history longer than most of its condo buildings, and Angelo's Pizzeria is making sure that story does not get boxed up and forgotten. Per MONTCO.Today, Angelo's is running a wholesale bread operation out of town, extending a legacy that used to be as much a part of the local skyline as smokestacks.

If you have ever wondered why a Conshohocken sandwich hits different, this is a piece of the answer. Grab a loaf, then explain to the kids that yes, bread used to come from a place you could walk to.

Farmers' Market returns Saturday with a bubble station for the kids

Saturday, September 5th, the Conshohocken Farmers' Market presented by Velocity Ventures runs from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and this week there is a bubble play station for the small humans. That is the entire pitch. Produce for the adults, floating soap orbs for the kids, everybody wins.

Even Cecily Tynan had to learn how to say Conshohocken

Small victory for anyone who has spent years correcting out-of-town relatives. In her final appearance on 6ABC Action News, retiring meteorologist Cecily Tynan mentioned that learning to pronounce Conshohocken was part of her Philadelphia initiation. Thirty years at the station, and our five-syllable town got a farewell shoutout.

Borough Council meets tonight, Labor Day trash schedule shifts

Two civic housekeeping items worth pinning to the fridge. Borough Council has a meeting notice on the calendar for September 2nd, per the Borough of Conshohocken. If you have opinions about parking, zoning, or literally anything else, this is your venue.

Also on the borough's calendar: Labor Day closures affected trash pickup and Borough Hall hours. Borough Hall closed at noon on Friday, September 4th, in observance of the holiday. If your can did not go out on the usual day this week, that is why.
