Royal Farms Sets June 29 Opening Date on Fayette Street

Mark the calendar. Royal Farms, the Maryland-based convenience-and-fried-chicken chain that has been quietly stalking the Philly suburbs for a few years now, has confirmed a June 29 opening for its Conshohocken location. A soft-opening event with tickets is also on the menu.

For families, this means another gas-station option on the southern edge of the borough, plus the fried chicken that Maryland natives keep insisting is worth a detour. Whether it dethrones Wawa in our hearts is a question for another morning. We have our doubts, but we also have stomachs.

Full details on the soft opening are available at MoreThanTheCurve.

Flyers Alumni Walk, Run, and Ride Returns to Conshy This Sunday

The Flyers Alumni Charity Weekend skates back into town this Sunday, June 14, for its annual walk, run, and ride event right here in Conshohocken. Yes, you read that correctly. Hockey players, on land, in June. The orange is the same.

It is one of those rare local events where a kid can plausibly end the morning with a high-five from someone whose face once graced a poster on their parent's childhood bedroom wall. Registration is still open. Details are over at MoreThanTheCurve.

Plymouth Township Data Center Hearing Date Is Set

The data center proposal that drew loud public opposition last fall, was withdrawn, and then came back with a fresh application now has its first hearing date in Plymouth Township. If you have opinions about big windowless buildings that hum quietly and consume an alarming amount of electricity, this is your cue to pay attention.

The story is layered. Tourism is up, Conshohocken's own data center fight has reignited along Cleveland-Cliffs land, and Governor Shapiro is pushing data center incentives as the state budget deadline approaches. So one local hearing sits inside a much bigger argument about what Montgomery County is becoming. Background reading from Plymouth-Whitemarsh Patch and MONTCO.Today.

Theater in the Parks Debuts with The Lion King Jr.

Saturday June 13 brings the debut of Conshohocken Theater in the Parks with a free, family-friendly production of The Lion King Jr. at 1:00 PM. Free, outdoors, songs you already know by heart whether you want to or not. Pack a blanket and prepare to hear Hakuna Matata at full volume from at least one small audience member.

Pair it with Saturday's farmers' market earlier in the day and you have a respectable lazy summer Saturday without leaving the borough. Event listing via Main Line Parent.

Conshy in Song, On Screen, and In a Hoagie Costume

A small entry in the ongoing case for Conshohocken as an unlikely pop-culture footnote. A band called Lackey released a track titled Conshy Girls, which MoreThanTheCurve flagged as a contender for song of the summer. Make of that what you will. A few years back, a Conshohocken corgi in a Wawa hoagie costume briefly went viral. The town keeps finding ways to show up in feeds.

Read more on the song from MoreThanTheCurve.
