Conshohocken Wraps Its 250th Fourth With Fireworks, Soap Box Winners, and a Very Hot Hill

If you thought the holiday weekend felt hotter than usual, you were not imagining it. The 75th edition of the Conshohocken Soap Box Derby ran on July 4th under what MoreThanTheCurve called the hottest race day since 2002. The kids raced anyway, because that is what kids do, and the winners are posted at MoreThanTheCurve.

The night before, the borough put on its annual July 3rd fireworks show, and yes, there is video of that too if you missed it or want to relive the boom. Whitemarsh Township added its own Fourth of July parade to the weekend ledger. Between the parade, the derby, and the fireworks, this year's Independence weekend basically doubled as a 250th birthday party for the country.

Now we exhale. Farmers' Market returns this week after the holiday break, the free summer concert series kicks off Thursday at Sutcliffe Park, and the pool weather turns into storm weather by tomorrow afternoon. A very normal Conshy summer, in other words, delivered at maximum volume.

Angelo's Pizzeria Keeps Conshohocken's Bread-Baking Legacy Alive

Conshohocken used to be a bread town. Ovens, flour dust, that whole world. Most of it faded. Angelo's Pizzeria is one of the reasons the tradition has not gone completely quiet, and MONTCO.Today has a nice piece on how the shop is running a wholesale baking operation that keeps the local bread lineage going.

It is one of those stories that sounds sentimental until you actually think about it. A pizzeria taking on the extra work of a bakery is not a small ask. There are ovens to run, hours to fill, deliveries to make. Doing that on top of the day job of feeding a Fayette Street lunch rush says something about what the place values. Read the full story at MONTCO.Today.

Farmers' Market Returns This Week After the Holiday Break

After a not-quite-rainout and the July 4th pause, the Conshohocken Farmers' Market presented by Velocity Ventures is back on the schedule. If the last two weeks knocked your Saturday produce routine sideways, this is your reset. Details and vendor info are up at MoreThanTheCurve.

Pair it with a Thursday night stop at the free summer concert kickoff at Sutcliffe Park and you have a pretty low-effort family week. Bring the lawn chairs, bring the kids, do not bring high expectations for parking.

SEPTA Regional Rail Schedules Changed on July 5th

Heads up for commuters. SEPTA rolled out new Regional Rail schedules on Saturday, July 5th, and that includes the Manayunk/Norristown line that a lot of Conshy residents actually use. If your morning train time feels off this week, that is why. Check the updated schedule before you walk to the station at MoreThanTheCurve's writeup, which links through to the SEPTA announcement.
