The proposed data center at 900 Conshohocken Road drew an almost-full house to Plymouth Township's zoning hearing board on August 6th, and the temperature in the room has not cooled since. Plymouth Township Council has publicly accused the developer of, and I quote the phrasing that made the rounds, "demanding approval by tantrum," while the borough of Norristown is applying for party status and the township has assembled a 43-point list of conditions it wants attached to any approval.

If you have been trying to keep this straight, here is the quick map. Plymouth is the municipality that would host the facility. Norristown wants a seat at the table because impacts do not politely stop at a township line. Whitemarsh Township, meanwhile, is not waiting around. Its council is set to vote on August 13th to advertise its own data center ordinance, a preemptive move that says quite a bit about how neighboring officials are reading the tea leaves.

For families, the practical questions are the boring but important ones. Traffic on Conshohocken Road. Water and power demand. Noise from cooling systems. Whether a 43-point conditions list actually gets enforced or becomes a memo everyone forgets in three years.
