At the August 5th borough council meeting, Conshohocken heard a presentation on buying a property along Colwell Lane to consolidate its public works department under one roof. That is the workmanlike part of the story. The part your dog cares about is buried a paragraph deeper. Consolidating public works could free up land currently used for those operations, and one option on the table is turning some of that space into a dog park.

Nothing is decided. This is early-innings municipal planning, the kind where a slideshow becomes a feasibility study becomes a line item, sometimes. But for a borough that has spent years watching residential density climb without a dedicated off-leash space, the possibility alone is worth watching.

Conshohocken used to be a bread town. Not metaphorically, actually. Ovens and flour and pre-dawn deliveries. Angelo's Pizzeria, which has been expanding its footprint with new locations, is one of the reasons that legacy has not slipped into the past tense. The pizzeria's wholesale bread operation, Angelo's Baking Co., is quietly keeping a piece of local food history alive while the rest of Fayette Street reinvents itself into what MONTCO.Today has called the region's most explosive dining destination.

It is a nice pairing to think about. The neighborhood is on every "where to eat this weekend" list in the region, and the anchor is a bakery doing something that predates any of it.

The Philadelphia region is now on day five of a stretched-out heat wave, and forecasters are watching for downpours and a few gusty storms over the next two days before the pattern finally breaks.
