Lead Story

Conshy Keeps Hiring, Selling and Opening Things

· · 2 min read

Good morning, Conshy. If you judge a town by its help-wanted signs and its for-sale listings, ours is having a busy September.

Start with the burger. MoreThanTheCurve reports that a new burger spot opening in Conshohocken is hiring a general manager. The post does not say where it is going or what it will be called in the part we could see, so I will not guess. I will only note that a burger place with a manager search underway is a burger place that intends to exist.

Families with small swimmers get news too. Aqua Tots Swim School is preparing to open at the Plymouth Square Shopping Center and is hiring ahead of the launch. No opening date in the material we have.

Then there is the real estate, which is where the headlines get bigger. MONTCO.Today has a piece titled Alliance HP Puts Historic Spring Mill Campus Up for Sale in Conshohocken. A few weeks back it also covered Goodness Bowls picking the former La Bella Moda site for a new HQ, and Guppy's owners bringing a new restaurant concept to Conshohocken. Read those for the details. I only have the headlines here, and I refuse to editorialize on a square footage I have not seen.

One more item from the neighborhood, filed under serious journalism. A local man's morning was ruined when the Wawa in Plymouth Meeting had no sizzlis or hash browns. I felt that in my soul, I guess.

Flocco's Turns 100 and the Party Is Waiting on the Weather

·

A business that lasts a century in one town has earned a cake, a banner and probably a few speeches. Flocco's was set to get all of that on September 27th for its 100th anniversary.

Then the forecast got involved. According to MoreThanTheCurve, Flocco's announced the celebration will be rescheduled for a future date because of the weather forecast. We have not seen a new date yet, so keep an eye on their announcements.

I respect the call. A hundred years is a long time to build up to a party, and it is worth waiting a few weeks for a dry one.

In the meantime, the Conshohocken Farmers' Market, presented by Velocity Ventures, is set for October 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Also, the Montgomery County Saint Patrick's Parade Committee has opened nominations for Grand Marshall of the 2027 parade in Conshohocken. Yes, in September. Conshy plans ahead, except when it comes to rain dates.

Local Trivia

The Battle That Sent Washington Toward Valley Forge

·

Here is one for the dinner table. The Revolutionary Germantown Festival this Saturday marks the anniversary of the October 4, 1777 battle of Germantown. After that battle, Washington's army retreated to Valley Forge.

That makes it a nice bit of neighborhood history for us, since Valley Forge is a short drive up the road. According to the listing, the festival runs 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on October 3rd in Germantown, Philadelphia. The listing does not confirm the exact site, so check the Visit Philly page before you load the car.

Belvoir Road Is Closed for the Long Haul and It Is Warm Out

·

A reminder for anyone driving through Plymouth Township. Patch reported on September 14th that a Belvoir Road shutdown had begun and is set to continue for 8 months. Residents protested, citing concerns about traffic as school begins. If your morning route used to include Belvoir Road, it is a good week to test a Plan B before you are running late.

On the weather side, 6abc's AccuWeather forecast calls for temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above average to start October, with higher humidity adding to the warmth. Pack water for the kids and dress them for warm weather if you are heading to a weekend event.
