Norristown Line Trains Become Buses Again This Weekend and Next

· · 2 min read

If you were hoping the train would carry you out of Conshohocken this past weekend, the Borough had some news for you, and it is still relevant because the sequel is coming. According to a notice on the Borough of Conshohocken news page, SEPTA is running a weekend bus substitution on the Norristown Regional Rail Line on Oct. 3rd-4th and again on Oct. 10th-11th. The reason is PECO wire repair work.

The notice says buses will replace train service between Conshohocken Station and Norristown-Elm Street Station for the entire service day. I will point out the phrase "entire service day," because it means what it says. Nobody is sneaking a train through at 2 PM. The notice was cut off in the version I could see, so check the Borough page for the rest of the details before you plan a Saturday around it.

If you have a family outing on the calendar for Oct. 10th or 11th, that is the part worth circling. Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown has a busy weekend lined up (more on that further down the page), and a bus ride with kids is a different animal than a train ride with kids. Give yourself extra time. Pack snacks. Now my biases are obvious, but I think snacks solve most transit problems.

Related, and already in the rearview mirror, Plymouth Township alerted residents that PECO would use a helicopter to inspect its equipment in the township on Oct. 4th, per MoreThanTheCurve. If something loud was circling overhead yesterday, that was the likely explanation. Nothing to report beyond that, and I am fine with that.

Brian Pieri Is Officially Conshy's Best Cheerleader

·

Some titles you earn by winning a game. Others you earn by being the loudest, friendliest voice in town. Restaurateur Brian Pieri was named Conshy's Best Cheerleader in the 2026 edition of Best of Conshy, and MoreThanTheCurve reports that Kathy Romano interviewed him about it on B101.

Here is the detail I enjoy most. Romano, the interviewer, came in second in the voting. So the runner-up got to sit across the microphone from the winner and ask the questions. That is either very gracious or a very polite way to keep an eye on the competition, and I choose to believe the first one.

Awards like this are a small thing, I guess, but a town that votes for its biggest cheerleader is a town that has some affection to spare. Congratulations to Pieri, and a nod to Romano for the silver medal and the follow-up interview.

Business Notes From Around Conshy and the Neighbors

·

A quick pass through the business items that crossed the desk, all of them close enough to matter if you shop, work, or drive around here.

Cencora, the Conshohocken-based pharmaceutical distributor, has added former Ryder CEO Robert Sanchez to its board, according to a Patch newsletter that cites mychesco.com. The pitch is logistics and supply chain expertise, which is a fair thing to want when your business is getting things from one place to another.

Over in Plymouth Meeting, Cronheim Hotel Capital announced on Sept. 29th that it secured $31.5MM to refinance the former DoubleTree Suites, which is being converted to apartments, per MoreThanTheCurve. A hotel becoming apartments is a very 2026 sentence.

Dollar Tree is opening inside a former Rite Aid at 762 East Johnson Highway in Norristown, on the border with East Norriton and Plymouth Meeting, also per MoreThanTheCurve. And on a snackier note, Boostin' Bowls has opened in The Shops of Lafayette Hill at 428 Germantown Pike, the same outlet reports.

One more, stated carefully. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele announced on Sept. 30th criminal charges against 46 businesses in 26 municipalities over the illegal sale of THC, and a Plymouth Meeting CBD store was among them, according to MoreThanTheCurve. Charges are charges, not verdicts.

Meet the Police and Fire Folks at Elmwood Park Zoo This Weekend

·

Safety weekend sounds like the kind of thing that gets a polite nod and a skipped Saturday. This one has a zoo attached, so it has better odds. Fire Smart runs Saturday, Oct. 10th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the zoo promising a lesson on safety and "the heroes that serve our community." It is presented by Rush Order Tees/Ninja Transfers.

Then on Sunday, Oct. 11th, also from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, comes Walk on the Wild Side. You explore the zoo and meet officers from the Norristown Police Department and the Lower Providence Police Department along the way. Kids who like uniforms and animals get both in one trip.

Remember the Norristown Line bus substitution that same weekend. If you are riding SEPTA to Norristown, plan for the bus.
