Do Not Eat Advisory Issued for Fish in Wissahickon Creek Basin

·

The Pennsylvania Departments of Environmental Protection and Health and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission announced on October 7 a "Do Not Eat" advisory for fish in the Wissahickon Creek Basin, MoreThanTheCurve reported. Patch reports the cause of the PFOS contamination is not clear, and officials have not said publicly where it may have come from. Until that gets sorted out, anyone fishing the creek should read the advisory before anything lands on a dinner plate.

Hallowell Street Gets Four to Six Weeks of Paving and Concrete Work

·

The Borough of Conshohocken has announced paving and concrete work on Hallowell Street that is expected to take four to six weeks, according to MoreThanTheCurve. The summary we reviewed does not give exact stretches or work hours, so check the borough site before you plan a route. The upside is a smoother street at the end. The downside is the weeks in between, I guess.

Whitemarsh Supervisors Weighed $12 Million for Quarry Preservation

·

Whitemarsh Township's Board of Supervisors was scheduled to consider a proposal at its Thursday, October 8 meeting for a $12 million contribution toward preserving a 67-acre quarry property in Plymouth Meeting, per MoreThanTheCurve. We have not seen a report on the outcome yet. Twelve million dollars buys a lot of anything, so expect the details to matter.

Goodness Bowls Picks Conshohocken for New Headquarters

·

Goodness Bowls has chosen the former La Bella Moda site in Conshohocken for its new headquarters, Montco.Today reports. The material we reviewed did not include a move-in date or other details, so we will leave those to the company. A local business putting down roots in a familiar address makes for a decent Friday storyline.

Colonial Schools Land Near the Top of Niche's Local Rankings

·

Niche has released its rankings of school districts in the Philadelphia area. Colonial School District ranks above all nearby districts except the ones on the Main Line, according to MoreThanTheCurve. Patch also ran a look at how Colonial compared with neighboring districts. Now my biases are obvious, but rankings make for better bragging than decision-making.
